UNIT NAME: DEPARTMENT OF DEMOGRAPHY –
Address: Room 319, A7 block, School of Preventive Medicine and Public Health.
The Department of Demography was established in 2006 and currently has 05 lecturers, including 02 Assoc. Prof., PhD., 03 staff members with master degree.
The primary functions and tasks:
- Training activities for undergraduate and postgraduate students;
- Compiling textbooks and references
- Participating research activities in different levels
- International cooperation activities in training and research
The achievements in the last 5 years:
- Training: Training for undergraduate and postgraduate students of the School, and the University; and developed the Sexual and Reproductive health track for those taking part in the International master degree in Public health.
- Awards/Merits: Excellent department for many years from 2012 until now; receiving merits from the government, Ministry of health, Emulative soldier at the grassroots level, lecturers nominated by students…
- Publications: Editor and participant in compiling Textbooks of Demography. Over the past 5 years, the Department has published over 10 international articles and over 50 national articles in prestigious journals.
- Projects: Take lead and participate in 07 grassroots studies; 01 State-level branch project; 01 Ministry level project, the “Potentials” project of HMU.
- International cooperation: Cooperation and exchange of lecturers and students with Denmark. Assoc.Prof., PhD., MD Nguyen Thi Thuy Hanh is Principle Investigates of the regional HUB for the Human Reproduction Program (HRP) for research capacity strengthening (RCS) on Sexual and Reproductive health, Western Pacific Region, World Health Organization.
-Key research directions: Conducting the research in the implementation of population-family planning policy, associated factors related to population. Additionally, the department also implements studies related to sexual and reproductive health…
2.1. Assoc. Prof., PhD, MD. Nguyen Dang Vung, head of the department, graduated Medical Doctor (Hygiene & Epidemiology) from HMU in 1986, he got degree of intern doctor in 1989 (Hygiene and Epidemiology) in HMU and the Master degree in Epidemiology in College of Public Health, Philippines in 1998 and PhD degree in Medicine (International Health) in Karolinska Institutet, Sweden.
- The research interests focus on the Preventive medicine and Public Health, Population health, Intimate partner violence against women. 11 international articles published in the journals included in Scopus/ISI

2.2. Assoc. Prof., PhD, MD. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hanh, deputy head of the department, graduated Medical Doctor from HMU in 1992, the Master degree in International Health in 2001 and PhD degree in Health Sciences (2011) in University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
- The research interests are in Public health and Preventive Medicine, Population, sexual and reproductive health, anthropology and sociology. 20 international articles published in the journals included in Scopus/ISI.
