Based on the announcement of Hanoi Medical University on postgraduate studies application and examination for the academic year of 2022 – 2024, the School of Preventive Medicine and Public Health (SPMPH) is pleased to invite qualified and interested candidates to apply for a place in the full-time International Master of Public Health program (Cohort 7, 2022 – 2024), commencing around October 2022.
Program Overview
The full-time Master of Public Health International Program at Hanoi Medical University, first established in 2015, is designed to train a new generation of competent public health researchers and practitioners. The program offers three areas of specialization for students to develop their diverse interests and capacities: 1) One Health and Public Health; 2) Health Economics; and 3) Reproductive Health. The areas of specialization build on inter-disciplinary learning and teaching methods to establish strong foundation for professional developments in both national and global environments. The program offers two tracks – Master of Science in Public Health and Master of Applied Public Health – with the former emphasizing developing the capacity to carry out public health research while the later developing the capacity to carry out public health interventions
As a graduate of our Master of Public Health International Program, you will be equipped with the knowledge and analytical skills to raise your professional profile, to apply different perspectives to address issues in public health, health economics and policy, reproductive health and to deepen your participation in ongoing conversations about key issues in global health. Completing this program, you will earn a Master degree in Public Health, awarded by Hanoi Medical University, as well as learn and flourish in a multicultural environment.
To fulfill the requiremens of the program, students must complete eleven (11) compulsory courses and four (04) elective courses, as well as complete a capstone thesis (either in the form of a research-based thesis for research oriented track or a project-based thesis for applied track). In the final thesis, students will be able to pursue their own topics of interests, and to investigate a question or problem of their choice.
Training duration: 18 months (Oct 2022 to May 2024)
Tuition fee: 5,250 USD (converted to Vietnamese Dong at the time of first payment). A limited number of merit-based scholarship are available for selected students. Students are also supported to apply for scholarships from other sources
Eligibility and Admission Criteria
Applicants from any country are eligible for the program and should have the following prerequisites:
+ Have a Bachelor’s degree with ranking at Good level and above in Public Health, Preventive Medicine, Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Nursing, Odontology-Stomatogy, Laboratory Technology, Health Management/Administration, and Sport Medicine
+ Complete 10 credits of supplementary course work in public health prior to the date of announcing shortlisted candidates for oral examination (see below), for those with Bachelor’s degrees in Pharmacology, Nutrition, Nursing, Odontology-Stomatogy, Laboratory Technology, Health Management/Administration and Sport Medicine, completing
+ Be an author (not necessarily primary/contact author) of one journal article published in a journal credited by the Vietnam State Council for Professorship at the time of publication (see the URL link for more information http://hdgsnn.gov.vn/ )
+ Have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Preventive Medicine, Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Nursing, Odontology-Stomatogy, Laboratory Technology, Health Management/Administration, Sport Medicine, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Economic Statistics, Administration – Management, Psychology, Biology, Applied Biology, Environmental Science, Social Work, Resource Management, Environment and Veterinary Medicine
+ Complete 10 credits of supplementary course work in public health prior to the date of announcing shortlisted candidates for oral examination (see below) and have at least two years of health-related work experiences, for those with Bachelor’s degrees in Pharmacology, Nutrition, Nursing, Odontology-Stomatogy, Laboratory Technology, Health Management/Administration, Sport Medicine, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Economic Statistics, Administration – Management, Psychology, Biology, Applied Biology, Environmental Science, Social Work, Resource Management, Environment and Veterinary Medicine

Scholarships: It is anticipated that about 25 prospective students will be admitted for this 2022 - 2023 intake (10 for Master of Science in Public Health Tracl, and 15 for Master of Applied Public Health: 15). There are limited number of scholarships for international and Vietnamese applicants. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic merits and competencies of candidates. Successful applicants are encouraged to seek outside scholarships and the SPMPH is happy to provide letter of support.
Application fee: 20 USD (Applicants may pay cash or make a wire transfer at the time of submitting their application. International applicants will be given details for transfer after submitting the applications). This fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee admission.
Important dates
Deadline for application : 20 June 2022
Applications will be reviewed by the Admission Committee and only those shortlisted will be invited for oral examination with the Examination Committee.
Notification of shortlisted candidates : 18 July 2022
Oral examination appointments : 01-05 August 2022
(Face-to-face with Hanoi-based applicants; online with those living outside of Hanoi)
Offer of merit-based scholarships : end of August 2022
Deadline for confirmation of acceptance by candidate: five business days after the offer being made/sent to selected candidates
